The “Childrens Online Privacy Protection Act”
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) was passed by Congress in October 1998, with a requirement that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issue and enforce rules concerning children's online privacy. COPPA applies to the online collection of personal information from children under the age of 13. The primary goal of the Act and the Rule is to place parents in control over what information is collected from their children online.

Because of the value that Camp Lackawanna places on the privacy and protection of children, we are providing the following information as it applies to this web site’s adherence to the COPPA.

• Collection of information – Camp Lackawanna does collect some personal information from children under 13 when they sign up to use the Camp Lackawanna Message Boards. Some information collected is an e-mail address, and optional profile information such as interests, and instant messenger names. Only the e-mail address is required and is used for sending and confirming passwords, and for certain system messages. The user may choose to show their e-mail address to other message board members, but this option is disabled by default. When registering, the child must select a link stating they are under 13. A form is e-mailed to them, which must be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to the address above before the account is activated.

• Outside Agreements - Camp Lackawanna does not have any agreements with outside organizations to collect personal information at our site.

• Use and sharing of Information - Camp Lackawanna does not share children’s personal information with anyone other than those who provide support for the internal operations of the Web site and our agents (e.g., contractors who provide fulfillment services or technical support to the Web site). An example of this might be the sharing of a child's log-in information, which consists of certain identifiable components, for technical assistance with our web site Message Board.

• Parental Review - Parents can review the information that we have collected from their children online (if any), prevent the further use or maintenance of such information, or direct the deletion of their children’s personal information by contacting Camp Lackawanna at any time. Parents may reach us at the telephone number and/or the e-mail address given above.

Future Development Plans

In the future, the Camp Lackawanna website plans on incorporating other interactive features, including, but not limited to, surveys and favorite link requests. No registration will be required or needed to use these features.

To be able to request a favorite link, the user only needs to give the link's web address, title, and short description. We may ask for an e-mail address in case we have any questions about the requested link. This e-mail address will not be used for any other purpose.

As these features become part of the regular website, we will add their information use discosures to the main portion of this document. Please check back to this page, as this document could change without notice as features are added to the website. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at the address, phone number, or e-mail address at the top of this page.
